National Nest Box Week< Back to news and events

February is the time of year that some birds are starting to look for nesting sites. When better to start to think about the nest boxes in your school grounds, cleaning out old nesting materials and putting up any new nest boxes.
You can take part in the annual National Nest Box Week organised by the British Trust for Ornithology since 2007. There is an explanation of how to get started and also a free information free pack. This is a fun and fascinating way to study birds in the curriculum, encourage more birds to your grounds and provide useful information that will help the conservation of birds. If you discover a bird nest in the grounds (not in a nest box) there is a nest record scheme as well. Interested children can take part using nest box or nests in their own garden too.
